Creative Cluster

We are joining forces and linking up with St. Mary’s Primary School and Mount St Michael to collaborate on music. This will strengthen our relationships with the schools in the area and will also give continuation to pupils as they move through their educational journey in primary and secondary school.

For the school year 2021 – 2022 pupils will be looking at song writing. How to come up with an idea, put it together, work on it, edit it and hopefully produce a song.

4th, 5th and 6th class had some workshops with John Spillane. Here pupils looked at the history of Rosscarbery and the school and wrote 3 verses and chorus. Jan Ó Longphuirt in 6th class put the melody of the song together with his excellent guitar skills. This inspired some of the other pupils to try their hand with their own musical instruments such as the guitar and the fiddle.

All pupils spent a day in February with Gary McCarthy from GMC Beats. By the end of the day the boys had produced two rap songs. A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all (even teachers couldn’t get the raps out of their heads).

All Pupils took part in African drumming lessons in March.

Exciting things are happening in 2022- 23. Following on from last years music initiative, pupils will record their songs they made and make a music video to go with the songs.

Linking with St Mary’s and Mount Saint Michael we hope to write a rap song about Rosscarbery….as they say there’s strength in numbers.
